Criminal Minds: Another Bad Decision By CBS

So, it seems CBS decided one bad decision in recent months — killing Miami Medical — isn’t enough. Now they’re apparently planning to remove A.J. Cook and seriously reduce the screen time of Paget Brewster on Criminal Minds.

Here’s the Deadline Hollywood story: CBS’ ‘Criminal Minds’ Cuts Female Cast But Will Add New Female Cast Member

What the heck are they thinking. Why mess with a successful show with consistently strong viewership?

Paget Brewster and A.J. Cook -- slated for the CBS axe?

It’s all about money, although CBS apparently is denying that. If Miami Medical was a CBS-produced show instead of a Warner Brothers-produced show I bet the network would have given it a chance. It was all about appearing to appease Jerry Bruckheimer while actually killing the thing in death slot of 10 p.m. Friday night. The cynic in me says there never was any hope of renewal — that would cost too much.

CBS supplies an IV full of death to shows that don't deserve it.

So now Criminal Minds, which has a fairly large regular cast, is apparently facing its own cost cutting measure. The hidden goal seems to be to kill a few regular cast members and replace them with cheaper ones.

What happened, CBS? You had my two favorite shows, Criminal Minds and NCIS, and a great up and comer in Miami Medical, and instead of investing you create two spinoffs — NCIS: Los Angeles and whatever the Criminal Minds one will be called — and mess everything up.

Will I stop watching if they get rid of A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster? Probably not. But it will certainly be a bitter pill to swallow.

In the meantime, here’s a couple places to vent, if you feel like I do.

The Criminal Minds Fanatic blog has a page up with contact information and how to call CBS and give them what-for here: Call Nina Tassler and Vent.

And there’s a petition to save the characters up here: Keep AJ Cook & Paget Brewster on Criminal Minds!

Cheers,

  2. I’ve never even watched the show but I gotta say it would be a shame to see less of the four, I mean the two, of them. ;-)

  5. I’m just not getting it at all. This show blows. First, how many people do they need running from one crime scene to another and just standing around and talking? Second, WHY does every show like this have to have some quirky-looking, quirky-dressing character with quirky hair or quirky jewelry. BORING! Next, does ANYONE on this show ever laugh or smile? I’m sorry, but life does not work this way. No matter what kind of work people are doing, no matter how serious, there’s still a little smiling and laughing going on throughout the day, somewhere sometime! These people are always so stern and serious – no laughing ever! Good God! And how many times per episode do they have to use that stupid word, “unsub”? I’m going to start a drinking game, like the old Bob Newhart thing – every time somebody on this dumb show says, “unsub” – chug! Maybe then at least we can get through an episode. I really like Joe Montagne, but this show blows.

  6. This show is so stupid it’s embarrassing. It embarrasses me that the society I live within in watches crap like this. The guy who PIONEERED criminal profiling has always said, and still maintains that if these dangerous metal cases truly don’t know that what they are doing is wrong, why is it that they never, ever do these horrible things in sight of a cop? Every damned episode, these depthless “actors” end up catching the moron and then act sad, as though they feel sorry for somebody who needed to be permanently removed, for the good of society as a whole. Our FBI, as citizen’s, and people really believe that a neurotic twink, who seriously needs a haircut, is allowed to carry a loaded sidearm? If they want this to look real, they need to hurry and air the episode where “Dr. Spencer Reid” shows up at a live crime scene, pisses himself out of raw fear, then starts crying and shoots himself in the thigh. And what drugs are the the people using who come up with the plots? This is an EMBARRASSINGLY crummy series. You don’t suck, CBS, but only because you have NCIS.
